The planning for the Gondola station in Town is currently ongoing. In the current stage of development, the Town describes the preliminary plans as including "three design concepts focus on transit-oriented development and community integration. The concepts varied in how they handled gondola placement (street level vs. second floor) and building arrangements." While planning on this project is in the very early stages, without the approval of the Home Rule Charter amendment, the voters will have no actual say in what is approved for this key site in Town.
For anyone who has gone to and/or spoken at a public meeting is can be quite disheartening. Residents are allowed three minutes to speak, which typically means you can say whatever you want but no one really listens. You typically cannot ask any questions (or if you do, you will not get an answer) and then the committee just moves on and does what it wants.
Last week the Telluride Town Council moved the Gondola planning forward with the release of sketches for the new station. The drawing shows in the foreground more commercial space where the current open space patio is located. The commercial space will require new employees to service the business.
